The Stories We Tell… The Theme of Orkest Season 3
by Sapphire Skye Toth - Orkest Artistic Director
When we ask Orkest Audience Members what is most important to them about their music, the overwhelming top answer was (and I’m talking by about 90%) is “the story of the music’s creation.”
Take that A.I…
The fact that we have the data to say that is obscenely important to me. The storytelling beats out genre, style (no, they’re not the same thing), artist popularity, danceability, and attention spans every. single. time. It’s that human connection, it’s the bards at the table, it’s the scary stories with acoustic guitar by the campfire, it’s… everything.
Seeing how folks really loved our Social Media & Content Creation Team’s (shout out Shameyka and Joaquin!) use of themes at the tail end of Orkest Season 2 and wanting to do that in a more thorough way for Season 3, I wanted to pick something that was reminiscent of why people go to an Orkest concert in the first place.
Storytelling.
With literacy rates in the U.S. dropping as fast as Masa Yoshida hits home runs, it’s also an important theme to continue to emphasize and promote through our music — art doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Yes, I did use an em dash and I’m not taking it back.
